SPECIAL FEATURE: Nature – the first "genetic engineer"
Genetic engineering — is one of the most challenging , íî è ñïîðíûõ achievements of humankind.The fear and distrust of genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) are in many respects due to the inadequate level of public’s knowledge in biology, medicine, and agriculture. Our authors, well-known Russian geneticists and genetic engineers, are trying to fill the information gap.
Particular emphasis is made on genetic engineering of plants as one of the most important and interesting aspects of the problem. You will learn about the prehistory, up-to-date achievements, and the future of genetic engineering, as well as about basic aspects of biosafety of GMO’s. The authors will share the secrets of genetic engineering “cuisine” with you, inform you about edible vaccines, curative carrots, and anti-AIDS tomatoes. Together with scientists, you will set out in search of the wild ancestors of the transgenic soybean to the Far East.
