Walk through the Paper Museum of the Imperial St. Petersburg MuseumN. P. KopanevaThe famous building on Vasilievsky Island in St. Petersburg, which has become the emblem of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is known as the Kunstkamera. The Kunstkamera museum in its modern form is basically associated with its outstanding anatomical collection purchased by Tsar Peter the Great from the Dutch anatomist Frederick Ruysch. Human curiosity has not changed much since the 18th century, and “the multitude of various organs and monsters, both instructive and curious”1 continues to attract most of the visitors. More information on these and other subjects you can find in the printed version of our journal. |
