The publication in "Library. Golden Shelf" consists of three parts: the article by Alexander Elert, Doctor of Science in History, an expert in decoding, translation and research of manuscripts of the 17-18th centuries; a fragment of "The Knights of the Taiga" (G. F. Ìueller) published in Russian for the first time, and the article by Alexander Panfilov, Cand. Sc., "My Longing to Serve Society...". Among them no stealing, swindling, or other premeditated offence are heard of. They are hospitable and generous. Many a time have I observed among the Nerchinskii Tunguses: when I gave the most noble among them a gift of some Chinese tobacco, glass beads or some other things dear to their hearts, he would share all the gifts with those present and did it not out of fear or under compulsion but solely out of a yearning for community.
