Krasnoyarsk "Eiffel" Tower

E. A. Vaganov and S. V. Verkhovets

At the end of September 2006, a scientific station was opened in a remote taiga region that can be reached only by water or in a landrover. The station was designed for the monitoring of greenhouse gases in the surface layers of the atmosphere of forest ecosystems in the boreal zone, which includes Siberian forests.

The heart of the new station is a metallic tower 302 m high (only 22 m lower than the Eiffel tower) equipped with meteorological devices. Connected to the tower are pipelines that take air samples from various heights for subsequent analysis with the help of a complex measurement system installed in the laboratory bin.

More information on these and other subjects you can find in the printed version of our journal.
